Mobility Scooter Batteries - Maintenance Tips

One of the most common questions we get asked is how long mobility scooter batteries last. The simple answer is, that it depends on a number of different factors, including how you maintain it. Here we’ve explained a little about your battery and how to maximise its output and lifespan.

BATTERY TYPES:

Mobility scooter batteries are generally one of two types, GEL or SLA (Sealed Lead Acid). These two types each have their own advantages, depending on usage.

CHARGING:

Charge after each journey as well as overnight. Never allow your battery to become fully discharged. If your scooter is not regularly used, the battery should be charged once a month anyway, as a minimum.

STORAGE:

Batteries should be stored in a cool and dry place. Overheating will reduce power output and lifespan. For the same reasons you should also avoid extreme cold, so try to store your battery somewhere with a comfortable ambient temperature.
